Enzo Maccarinelli reckons Amir Khan should grab opportunity to fight Floyd Mayweather – Boxing news
Former World Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Union’s world champion Enzo Maccarinelli reckons Amir Khan should not miss the opportunity to fight the five-division world champion and WBC Emeritus World Super Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather.
Amir Khan became the new unified IBF and WBA Super world light welterweight champion recently as he knocked out former five-time world champion Zab Judah in the fifth round.
Khan will now fight one more time in December 2011 before going up to the 147 pounds category and in that division Freddie Roach is aiming the Pretty Boy, Mayweather, as Khan’s next opponent.
The Big Mac, Maccarinelli, admitted there is a lot of difference between Judah and Mayweather but on the same note, he thinks Khan will have nothing to lose if he gets a fight with Mayweather.
The Welsh pugilist Maccarinelli stated Mayweather is considered as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and since Khan will enter the fight as an underdog, he will have nothing to lose. He also added it will be a big payday for the Bolton belter,
who is widely known as King Khan.
“You’ve got to be realistic there is a big gulf in class between Zab Judah and Floyd Mayweather Jr. They are a totally different class but there is a lot of fights out there for Amir Khan at the moment,” he said.
He added, “If he gets the opportunity to fight the pound-for-pound number one on the planet he has nothing to lose. The pay day is going to be phenomenal so I wouldn’t say not to take it. I would just say to be realistic about beating him.”
In the end the 30-year-old Enzo shared his feeling on the Khan-Judah bout. Enzo said it was one of the best performances he has ever seen from the 24-year-old Brit, who has won 26 of his 27 fights including 18 by the way of a knockout.
“I thought Khan boxed very well,” he continued. “That was probably the best I’ve seen him.”
