Enzo Maccarinelli wants to knockout publication that cost him career’s six months – Boxing News
Enzo Maccarinelli, the former WBO cruiserweight champion, is ready to knockout the publication that has cost him his career’s six precious months via suspension.
According to recent tidings, Enzo is looking forward to drag the magazine, which falsely published a banned substance as a best supplement for fighters, in the court for legal action.
As per the details available in the media, Maccarinelli, who was given a somewhat clean verdict for not using the banned substance deliberately, is raged at the deterioration of his reputation and integrity.
Enzo gave a sample for testing after his bout with Shane McPhilbin. The procedure is quite normal and as per Enzo’s own words he has gone through 20 plus drug tests. Shockingly the results revealed the presence of MHA in Maccarinelli’s body.
After detailed investigations, Enzo revealed that he took a sports supplement in order to burn his fats, adding that he just read an advert which did not mention any such thing as a fitness booster.
The former world champion was of the view that it was the day when he received the reports that he got aware of the presence of banned substance in his body. The United Kingdom Anti-Doping agency heard Enzo and his arguments and later on announced a six-month
retrospective ban which will end on October 18, 2012.
Enzo sought advice from the doping agency since it was not his mistake at all rather it was the misinformation done by the advert and the publication who dubbed the supplement as ‘best for fighters’.
As per UKAD’s suggestions, Enzo will now go in court to lodge a legal action against the magazine. Maccarinelli stated, “I asked UK Anti-Doping what rights have I got. And they said I would have to speak to a solicitor so that is what I'm doing. It is not
so much about the money but my reputation which has always been one of integrity.”
Enzo, 31, who has been in a total of 40 bouts, further revealed that his innocence is visible from the fact that in the email addressed to him sent by UKAD, it was specifically mentioned that he did not take the said substance ‘knowingly’, adding that the
agency admitted that his intentions were not meant to enhance performance.
Britain’s second best cruiserweight was of the view that cheating should never be a part of the sport. Enzo, while vehemently bashing the aspect, stated, “I don't believe there should be cheats in sport, nothing beats hard work and my dad brought me up the
right way and for people in some circles to classify me as a cheat, my dad would turn in his grave.”
Maccarinelli has already vacated the title, won against Shane, voluntarily after the dismal drug issue.
