Question:

Enzyme Supplements for Gluten?

I'm a former meat eater who was able to go vegetarian thanks to Morning Star Farms "meat" products. I just found out there's a good chance I have Celiac or at least some sufficiant gluten intolerance. Cutting the sugar and bread is hard enough, but cutting my fake meats (which are wheat proteins!) are just the kill all. I can't go back to meat, and I'm not a huge fan of tofu at all.

Is there a digestive enzyme that would help digest gluten so I can at least have my crumbles and grillers now and then? I read about one (called PEP) that was some gluten enzyme miracle back in 2006 and now seems to have fallen off the face of the planet as far as my searches on the net are concerned.

  1. That is probably the most dangerous advice I have ever seen here!! Wow and then some! Celiacs do NOT have "gluten digestion" issues. What happens is that once broken down into gliadanin and  glutenin, it is basically "seen" by the body as "invaders" and it sends out an antigen responce and issues an inflammatory response. Your body reacts to the inflammation by sending out wbc's to destroy the gluten and remove the damaged tissues, which in this case is your small intestine.

go here so you can get the "gist of it"

and here for the technical specifics, scroll to pathophysiology:

You absolutely MUST go to your doc and ask for these blood tests: http://www.labtestsonline.org/understand...

    Ig-G, IgA, and T-tG.

If you are a celiac, absolutely NO SUPPLEMENT can help you recover. Following a lifetime gluten free diet is the only "treatment" for this GENETIC, AUTOIMMUNE disease.

I am a gf,lactose, soy intolerant who is aso vegan and kosher and here is the product you are looking for:

I use it every day and it is literally a goddess send!

Blessings, but get yourself to a doc and get the bloodwork. 3 tiny vials of blood and 3 tests can change your life and health.

    Go, now! Blessings "Nama

p.s. Bloody h**l. If there really was anything out there that could honestly break down gluten before it gets to your small intestine, don't you think the MILLIONS of gluten sensitives/ intolerants would be all over it as well as every doctor in the world? You would see it on the telly every bloody day and then some!  There is NOT a miracle supplement. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, and DEAL with it. Get yourself to the doc and fast!

  2. Yes, there is... but it might not help like you want it to. The thing is, if you have Celiac Disease, digesting the gluten more efficiently might not help completely with the pain and whatnot, but it can help for those who have a little gluten in their meal accidentally (like a little wheat mixed into a recipe, for example).

What I mean is that if you intentionally took a larger amount of Gluten when you have Celiac, it might be more than the enzymes could break down and you could have a reaction from it.

All that being said, there are some Gluten Peptide enzyme complexes out there by various names. The only one I know of is called BioCore DPP IV (which stands for DiPeptidyl Peptidase IV, which is the name given to a specific active stage of digestion during which these peptides are broken down) and you should be able to find that either in a local healthfood store or online. Good luck with everything!
