Eoin Morgan joins England’s ICC World Cup 2011 squad
Eoin Morgan has reached http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to join England’s World Cup squad; he is replacing Kevin Pietersen who was ruled out from the tournament with a hernia injury.
The left-handed batsman reached England’s team hotel in Southeastern http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 this afternoon. Morgan was not named in England‘s original 15-man squad for the World Cup. He was ruled out of the mega tournament due to a fractured finger that he sustained
during England’s seven match One Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
Morgan’s comeback bodes well for the Poms; the player gave a consistent batting performance throughout 2010 and is in prime form.
Meanwhile, Pietersen has been flown back to England and is expected to undergo surgery next week which will force him to take a six week rest. He is likely to miss the Indian Premier League Twenty20 and is expected to join England’s first summer Test series
against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 starting in May.
Stuart Broad’s injury, reported this morning, is another added headache for England. The pacer sustained a side strain during England’s last match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 where Broad claimed 4-15 to steer his team to victory. He has undergone scans to determine
whether he will play in the rest of the tournament.
Broad is hopeful that the injury is not too serious, “I'm not too down at the minute because I don't know what the injury is,” he said.
In Broad’s absence, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 is expected to open with the skipper Andrew Strauss at the crease in England’s fifth encounter on Friday.
England are ranked Number 2 in group ‘B’ with five points in four matches; their next encounter is against Bangladesh at Chittagong.
To qualify for the quarter-finals, England need to win just one of their group matches against Bangladesh or the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
