England’s stand-in skipper, Eoin Morgan, has admired his young teammates for a superb 11-run victory over Ireland in the one-off One Day International (ODI), played at Dublin on Thursday, August 25, 2011.
It was a satisfying triumph for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576 and Morgan emerged as the heroes of the party by scoring 69 and 59 respectively, the performances of youngsters cannot
be overlooked.
Chris Woakes collected an unbeaten knock of 19 runs plus delivered six overs while Jade Dernbach and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566 made an impact with the ball, grabbing three and two scalps respectively.
Enormously delighted over making his captaincy debut on a great note, Morgan lavished praise on the youngsters and termed them as fine future prospects for English cricket.
"I think they'll benefit from this. It took me 10 or 12 ODIs (for England) to get going and being around guys like Jonathan Trott really helped - guys who've been there and done that. This experience will help them and I certainly believe we'll see more
of them in the near future," said Morgan.
The excellent display of skills by the youngsters has made it tough for national selectors to name an ODI squad for the five-match clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, as they have many suitable options to consider.
While some big guns such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 will surely be in the squad, the selectors are expected to include some of the young players in the troop. Trott, who missed half of the Test series due to an injury, is also ready
to fire in the ODIs.
Trott’s half-century on his comeback pushed Morgan to heap special praise on the classy batsman, as he acknowledged that Trott is the backbone of the English batting line-up.
"Trotty is invaluable to our team and has been for a couple of years, since he has been involved. He was crucial to our success here and the majority of times he scores runs we win, which is fantastic,” added the Dublin-born batsman who was leading the side
against his native Ireland.
