Eoin Morgan rues England's inability to capitalise on a good start – Cricket News Update
England’s stand in skipper Eoin Morgan rued his side’s inability to build on a superb start after India defeated them comprehensively by five-wickets in the first T20 International of the two-match series, played here at the Subrata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Sahara Stadium in
Pune on Thursday, December 20, 2012.
Sitting pretty at 89 for 1 at the end of the tenth over, courtesy opener Alex Hales’ gusty 56 off 35 deliveries, the tourists later slipped to 100 for 4 in the 13th over, and ended up 157 for 7 in their allotted quota of twenty overs.
The hosts fought their way back into the match through part-time left-arm spinner Yuvraj Sing who removed the set English pair of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032. Yuvraj followed up his career best bowling figures
of 3 for 19 with a quick-fire 38, which came off just 21 deliveries and was studded with two fours and three sixes, as India chased down the 158-run target in 17.5 overs with five wickets intact.
At the post-match presentation ceremony in Pune, Morgan lamented his side’s inability to cash on a superb start.
"We got off to a great start. Alex played tremendously well along with Luke, but in that middle period we failed to kick on and score. That positivity wasn't there in our batting and we lacked about 15 or 20 runs," said Morgan.
"We never seemed to get going again. We continually lost wickets, which is a shame because the start we had, we were on for a good score - that was the thinking," he added further.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465, who is nursing a recurring heel injury, said his side was always in the game.
"We always thought we were in the game. We lacked a small bit of discipline in our bowling, but we were always up against it with that score on the board from Yuvraj and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750," added Morgan.
Yuvraj was subsequently named as the Player of the Match for his match-winning all-round show.
The second and final T20I of the series will be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 on Saturday, December 22, 2012.
