Question:

Epi-pen storage question?

I left my epi-pen in my purse inside my car yesterday for about 6 hours. It was close to 85 degrees outside (I'm sure much more in the car). Is the epi-pen still good, or do I need to throw it away and have the doc prescribe a replacement?

  1. It's probably still good, but the instructions on the box or in the enclosed pamphlet will tell you exactly.

Be aware that they tend to err on the side of caution, for malpractice and sales reasons. If it says throw out after 5 hours, you's probably be safe with at least 8. If it says never let it get over 70 degrees, and you went to 85, toss it.

  2. I would say yes.  I was told to keep mine in the refrigerator

  3. Yes, it is still safe to use. I would advise however to keep it on you at all times if you were to have an attack you might not be able to make it to your car. :)

  4. It's suppose to be stored at room temp.

    I would get another one..

    Same thing goes for Insulin

  5. Check with the pharmacist -they know all that stuff.  I know mine says to store it at maximum 80 degrees.

  6. I feel like your pen is fine.  You want to avoid long term storage of the pen in extreme temperatures.  Your epi-pen probably sat on a UPS truck for more than 6 hours during delivery to your pharmacy.
