  1. Dear Caesar,

I am so sorry you are suffering with this. As a matter of fact, my brother-in-law has had it 3 times over a twenty year period. And I am sure you would agree that that is 3 times too many!

Below are two great on line resources for you to check out. They list a number of causes starting with STD (sexually transmitted diseases) bladder infections, medication side effects, (prescribed, over the counter or illegal ones) or torsion problems, (literally the tube twisting on its own due to strenuous exercise, obesity, or underlying illness!)

My brother in law literally lived with Ice packs for a couple of weeks as he couldn't walk with it. If you want to try ice, make sure not to keep it on for more than 20 minutes and the 2 best ice packs are a bag container of frozen peas. Yeah, I know it sounds weird but both my sons are athletes and they are easy to mold to whatever body part is in pain. The second is using a rubber latex glove filled with crushed ice. It is very important that you put a cloth between you and the ice pack.

If you also are in a monogamous relationship, it would not hurt for both you and your partner to be checked out as it is very common for lovers to transmit infections, and (NOT necessarily only sexual infections) back and forth.

Lastly, whenever you have pain, it is critical that you have it handled immediately. A twisted spermatic cord is very dangerous and must be promptly attended to. Meaning do not pass go, do not collect $200, but get your butt and affected body parts to the emergency room!

I also think it is critical that your previous doctor and your current doctor give you a complete understanding of what they felt the cause was, what tests did they base their diagnosis on, and what advice they can give you to protect yourself. Sometimes when we are in great pain, or are overwhelmed, it is hard to focus on the answers. Bring a friend you trust who can remain objective to take notes on the explanations because that will be your best arsenal in not have a third event.

Best of luck to you and if you have guy friends you feel comfortable talking with, ask them if they have ever experienced this. Who knows, they may be a font of information!

  2. Wow! Timarie5 gave a superb answer!   The only thing I want to say is.....I've had epididymitis a few times, buddy.....I know what you're going thru.  My doctor usuallly prescribes anti-inflammatory meds and an antibiotic.  These really seem to help a lot!  I'm interested to know....have you had a vasectomy?  I have.  It was after mine, that I first experienced epididymitis.  My physician told me, for some reason, there is an increased incidence of epididymitis in men who have had vasectomies.
