Epidural first child 08/04/2007. I never had any back problems before this. Just last month I suffered from a locked spine. My 3&4 facet. PAINFUL. I'm still recovering.I am overweight. I know my weight is a factor. I am on a diet and slowly and steadly losing weight. But could the epidural I had last year have any adding cause for this? I was having some back pain in january, in the same spot where it locked up in July, it was bad but my spine didn't lock.

  1. my sister had an epidural when she had her 1st kid and it cause her so much pain in her back cause when they did it some air went in her spine now she has a lot of pain in her back so yes i think it would cause you pain from the epidural.

  2. It is unlikely to be directly related to the epidural.  It would be more likely to be related to the pregnancy overall.  During pregnancy your body mechanics must change in order for you to continue to move in an upright position.  Your pelvis also must make space for the new growing baby.  As these changes take place your spine is also affected.  Sometimes if your spine is lacking the proper freedom of movement you will develope muscle spasm thereby "locking" your spine.  The epidural may have exacerbated a situation that was already in the works.
