Epiphanny Prince, Sylvia Fowles, Renee Montgomery: Top WNBA players from June 23 games – Part 2
In the second game on Thursday night, Chicago Sky knocked down Connecticut Sun 107-101 in double overtime at Allstate Arena.
Trailing by 96-92, Chicago went on a 15-5 run in the last three and half minute of the second overtime to walk away with fourth victory of the current season. Three players registered double-doubles for Chicago. Here is a detailed
insight into some of the most breath-taking performances from the game:
Epiphanny Prince
Epiphanny Prince helped her team trample the Connecticut, leaving everyone flipped out with her terrific performance. The Chicago guard posted a team-high 25 points and dished out six assists on the night. Connecticut trailed 96-92
with 03:47 to go in the game. However, Prince hit a 3-pointer to start a spurt that saw her make seven of eight free throws in the ensuing passage. She scored 10 points in the last three and a half minutes of the game and single handedly turned the game upside
down.
Sylvia Fowles
With her team badly in need of a win, Sylvia Fowles headed out aggressively from the very start and ended with 24 points and 12 rebounds in more than 46 minutes of play. The player also blocked three shots in the span and shot
11 of 21 from the field.
With 3.6 seconds to go in the first overtime and Sky trailing by two, it was Fowles who sank a turnaround jump shot and forces a second overtime at 92-each.
Michelle Snow
Michelle Snow racked up 12 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds in the win. The centre also dished four assists and shot 6 for 8 from the field.
Tamera Young
Tamera Young came off the bench with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block for Sky. The player was 8- for 11 from the field and also pinned a three-pointer on the night.
Courtney Vandersloot
Chicago’s point guard Courtney Vandersloot scored 14 points dished out a game-high 10 assists and grabbed five rebounds in more than 39 minutes of action.
Renee Montgomery
Renee Montgomery led all the scorers with 33 points. The guard finished on a 10 for 17 shooting from the field and pinned 7 of 10 free throws in 43 plus minutes of action.
Montgomery, who is averaging 19.2 points per game, also pinned six three-pointers, including the one from the top of the key in the closing second of the final quarter to knot the game at 84, sending the game into first O.T. The
24-year-old made another 3-pointer to make it 91-90 in the first O.T.
Tina Charles
Tina Charles once again played well and added 22 points and 13 rebounds in nearly 46 minutes. The 22-year-old centre also had two steals and two blocks in the loss.
Kara Lawson
The 5-foot-8 Kara Lawson added 15 points, five assists, five rebounds and two steals. Lawson also pinned two three-pointers for Connecticut, who saw their three-game winning streak snapped.
