Epiphanny Prince, Sylvia Fowles lead Chicago Sky past Washington Mystics 80-67 – WNBA Recap
Epiphanny Prince came off the bench with 18 points, four rebounds and three assists as Chicago Sky defeated Washington Mystics 80-67 on Friday night at Allstate Arena. It was Mystics’ seventh consecutive defeat. Chicago, on the
other hand, is just one and half behind Atlanta Dream for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Sylvia Fowles scored a double-double with all of her 14 points in the second half of the game and 12 rebounds. Fowles shot 5 for 9 from the field and 4 for 4 from free throw line. Tamera Young ended the game with 12 points on 5
for 10 shooting from the floor.
The Mystics centre forward Crystal Langhorne scored a game high 19 points; grabbed nine rebounds, dished out five assists and stole the ball twice. Kelly Miller added 13 points, pinning 3 of 5 three-pointers, while Matee Ajavon
had 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the loss.
Sky shot 48.3 percent (29 for 60) from the field, including 61.5 percent (8 for 13) from three-point range, and 82.4 percent (14 for 17) from free throw line. Mystics shot only 33.8 percent (24 for 71) from the floor, including
41.7 percent (5 for 12) beyond the arc and 82.4 percent (14 for 17) from the line. Chicago committed 16 turnovers while Washington committed just 13.
Chicago got off to a great start at home and held a ten-point lead, 27-17, after first quarter. The Mystics were back into the game in the second quarter and trimmed their deficit to four, 40-36, with 59 seconds to go in the first
half. Prince then hit a jumper to push Chicago lead to six points before Walker successfully drove to the rim to cut the margin back to four points. However, Prince responded with a shot from down town and Chicago held a 45-38 lead at halftime.
Both teams played a defensive game in the third quarter and Chicago maintained a 61-55 lead at the end of the quarter. Sky opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run to make it 67-55 and did not trail for rest of the period.
