  1. The two parts of epoxy are resin and hardener. I have heard people use the term catalyst when referring to the hardener.

  2. Two-part (synthetic) epoxies come as "resins" and as "glues" (there are also epoxy putties/clays).

They're both adhesive, but the "resin" is liquid and is intended to be poured or brushed over something to create a thick coating (and requires 24 hrs to cure), whereas the glues are sold in smaller quantities and are thicker to be used more like glues (very strong glues).

All cure clear unless they've been colored.

As to what they parts have... here's what Wikipedia says:

...epoxy (or polyepoxide) is a thermosetting epoxide polymer that cures when mixed with a catalyzing agent or "hardener".

Most common epoxy resins are produced from a reaction between epichlorohydrin and bisphenol-A.

...polyester resins are unsaturated (contain chemical double bonds) resins formed by the reaction of dibasic organic acids and polyhydric alcohols

Epoxy resins come in two equal parts and are mixed one-to-one.

Polyester resins (also called casting resins, and are the ones used for fiberglass too) come in two unequal parts, and are mixed using a large amount of resin to a few drops of "catalyst."

Now sure what you're asking about "wood work."
