Epsom Derby favourite and Queen Elizabeth’s colt Carlton House
One of Britain’s most prestigious horse racing events is the Epsom Derby also referred to as The Derby and the Derby Stakes.
The Derby will take place at Epsom Downs Racecourse, which is one of the most famous race courses, in the world. Located in the heart of Epsom Downs and surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
No better venue for flat horse racing then Epsom Downs Racecourse with a distance of a mile and a half and being run in a left-handed direction.
The Queen of England Elizabeth II, in her 59 years as monarch, has never been able to win the Derby. But that is likely to change because she now possesses Carlton House. Her Highness was reportedly gifted the colt by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammad
bin Rashid.
Carlton House is a favourite to win the Epsom Derby after he recently won the 10 furlong Dante Stakes by a decisive 1 ½ lengths.
Though there has been news about the colt leaving a workout with a swollen ankle, x-ray reports show it was just a sprained ankle. Trainer, Sir Michael Stout, and, Jockey Ryan Moore, are confident of Carlton’s fitness after putting him through a light jog.
Carlton House’s Flat turf record is something to talk about. He has managed 2 wins and 1 runners-up place in his 3 starts and also has a Stakes win under his belt.
His Sire, Street Cry, is a Thoroughbred racehorse and winner of the 2002 Dubai World Cup and the 2002 Stephen Foster Handicap.
There are other talented horses in the line-up for the Epsom Derby, who will surely test Carlton House’s mettle. Among the 13 are Seville, Recital, Native Khan, Pour Moi, Ocean War, Memphis Tennessee, and, Treasure Beach.
If Carlton wins the Epsom Derby, it will break the 102-year old Epsom win drought for the British monarchy. He has two victories already and one second place finish but he has been drawn in a problematic outside stall number 13.
Much is riding on the Queen’s colt and jockey Ryan Moore is confident that the bay son of Street Cry is capable of coming through the race. But he is a little skeptical when it comes to the colt’s last run at Dante, which he thinks, was slow.
All will be revealed on June 4, 2011, when Carlton House takes on the rest to bring home the Queen’s first ever Epsom Derby win.
