Question:

Epson Stylus DX8450 printer does not recognise ink cartridges?

My printer has just decided that it doesn't recognise the ink cartridges and is saying I should replace them. They are not running out of ink. It has worked perfectly well up to now, so why should it do this? I have tried taking a cartridge out and putting it back, also turning the machine off and back on (computer too) but it won't change anything. I can't print anything now! It's so frustrating!!!

  1. Are you using genuine epson or compatibles? A lot of compatibles dont work with the newer printers. Next, remove the cartridge and clean off the contacts on the printer. I once found a tiny sliver of a chip on the pins of a client's printer which was preventing it from recognizing any cartridge - even genuine epson. Also, clean the contacts on the cartridges themselves. You can use a pencil eraser very carefully. If none of these work, the printer has to go back (which I also had happen to a client).

  2. Yup I had that last year and it cost me a new printer. I first thought it was the cartridges but it was the carrier

    Too dear to repair

  3. Maybe carefully clean the contacts that the cartridge connects to?

Or take a look at the support area at http://www.epson.co.uk
