Same right mean exactly that, if women have specific reproductive rights men have them too even if they have no need for them.. don't know of any rational person who supports this.

Equal rights means that in all applicable areas you get the same rights. So if there's an act protecting women from violence men get the same like the VAWA perhaps... Basically equal rights means you cannot discriminate based on circumstances. You just get them

Fairness in rights is about individuals getting rights based on what they need and what they should have according to circumstances etc. So back to the VAWA, it could just be fair that women have that act and men don't since men are more capable of causing harm.

I always thought feminism stood staunchly behind equal rights but maybe i'm mistaken now...

  1. The difference is between equality and equity. Equality is treating everyone the same, regardless of their different needs and circumstances. Equity is treating people differently based on different needs, so we all get a chance to realize our potential. Someone who is vision impaired may need a white cane, braille, a seeing eye dog, etc, while someone in a wheelchair with perfectly good eyesight has quite different needs. Treating them exactly the same would be ludicrous. Same goes for other issues.

Sexism, racism, ablism, etc often hides behind "equality," and pretends that everyone starts from the same starting point with the same privileges. Equity is recognizing the differences and operating from the ideal of fairness and sharing of power.

  2. I don't go for this equality thing; all I know is when you want to do something get out there and do it, if one way is blocked another is always open.

  3. Got to "Same right mean exactly that, if women have specific reproductive rights men have them too...".

And I stopped reading.  Are you aware that men don't have uteruses?

*Grow yourself a uterus and we'll talk.

  4. I've sure seen some weird things in this equal rights thing. When the ERA amendment was being debated, someone insisted on urinals in the women's rest room. The ERA didn't pass, because the feminists discovered that with equal rights came equal responsibilities. That isn't what they had in mind. I have daughters that have excelled in male dominated fields, and I am proud of them. They often observed that they had to be twice as good as their male counterparts to succeed. They were and did. When they were little, and I pushed them to excel, they said "Daddy I'm just a little girl." I replied that was just an excuse. Equality comes with equal performance.

  5. That's a good observation. I personally believe in equal rights across the board, though.

  6. Whatever feminists want at the time, but they end up calling it equality whether it is or not.

  7. Um. When it comes to equality , equity and fairness it can be tricky.

But comparable rights would make sense. The problem with speaking about "rights" is socialist, communist's try to sneak there society killing idea's into the mix.

The most society can do is make sure we have the opportunity to succeed. We may not of started off at the same points but that is life.

But how many successful industries and companies where founded by those who had little but worked hard?
