Question:

Equine Massage Therapy?

I am planning on going to school for equine massage therapy and Im curious to know how many of you fellow horse lovers/owners/riders have had this done to your horse? And how many would consider it?

What area(s) do you think this would thrive in most? (race tracks, rodeos, show?)

Thanks :)

  1. If you are going to do equine massage on others horses and charge for it you want to be sure to check to see if you need to be licensed as a massage therapist too which is usually a whole different thing than just going to equine massage training.

Some states won't let you practice unless you work for a vet or with a vet too so be sure you know the legal aspects of working on animals before you start.

Most any horse that is used in competition of any sort- dressage, eventing, endurance racing, regular horse racing can benefit.  I used to work on the Canadian Royal Mounted Police horses when they came to town for the fair.

  2. well,  havent dont it all that much, but when the schooling horse that i ride gets aggrivated or nervous over someting in the barn, I do some T-Touch on her, and it seems to work really well. she calms right down, and her Eyes half close

  3. I have taken a course on it and done it to my horse and I have had someone else do it on my horse and you can see a MAJOR difference! It can thrive anywhere I do my horses right before any show I would say u should do it

  4. Hi, well done on this decision! I am an Equine Sports Massage Therapist, and as well as massaging my own horse, I also massage lots of others. I can tell you this, all horses appreciate this! I go to several barns and the horses I do welcome me hugely! Even horses that are known to be boisterous and sometimes aggressive get the hang of why I am there, and melt! I massage some endurance horses as well as polo and flat racers, and all of them benefit. Even happy hackers love it. Every horse can benefit as you will learn on your course. Good luck!!

  5. I have never hired someone to do this but i did have someone show me how to...I do my own horses.  There is a place for them, a lot of people i know use them.  Most are show people, rescues and i could see it being used at the track.

  6. I've had this done for my dressage horse.   It made a huge difference and was worth every penny.

  7. i have a lady who does equine massage therapy on my horse and the others on the yard and it seems to work wonders to all the other horses who do a variety of things with their horses.  However with mine it just makes her nice whilst she is being massaged but as soon as its over shes still a ***** lol so i would recommend it as it seems to work on all the other horse i know and youll probably get a bit of buisness from it

    hope this helps x
