Does any one have solid information on Nutrition for horses in Cenrtal America (Panama). We deal in high humidity and high temperatures. We have different types of forage and North American conventional supplements are difficult to come by and trust. Lots of corn and rice.

  1. Interesting, I would look at the age and work load (if any) for your horse, look at the protein required for a maintenance diet. I then would look at local alternatives to create that protein requirement. corn, maybe rolled or crimped, make sure it does not mold. Beet pulp? if locally grown, how about oats? I would look at purchasing fasttrack or another probiotic to make sure what they are eating getting digested and used to most.  Horses to be m aintained do not require lots of grain, just good forage. Grasses you would have to look at locally as to what may or may not be poisonous.

  2. Well I know the "charros" in Los Angeles use a LOT of rolled barley corn, because that's what they are used to in Mexico.  Oats tends to give just energy.  Can you list what's available in Panama?  Hay, etc.  That would greatly help in deciding what would be the best choice in helping you find the right feed for your horse.
