Equine Vet?

Question

How hard is vet school? I know it is hard but how hard? How can I best prepare for it? How can I best increase my chances of getting in? How much do vets make?

I wanna be a Vet/Vet Tech and I think Equine Vets dont make all that much, About $40,000 or so?

And you should start taking biology, math, chemisty, and any science classes.

Getting into veterinary school isn't easy. I live in Ontario and the only vet school here is in Guelph. There are only about 150 positions each year open and the competition for them is fierce. You have to really want the job.

If you're in 9th grade, youre just going into high school. Make sure you continue to take all of your sciences and maths. Then, when you apply to university, you have to apply for a degree (which degrees you need vary by veterinary school, but theyre usually an animal related science).

Vets just starting out don't make that much, about $35,000 - $40,000. As your career grows though, you'll get more clients and make more money.

Do you like chemistry, math, anatomy, physiology, biology?  If so, take all these classes you can.  In pre-vet, you'll have to take a lot of sciences.  The better you prepare yourself, the better you will fare.  Keep your grade point average as high as possible.   Be sure you want to do this.  When you are old enough, check around to see if you could get a summer job with an equine vet group so you can really see what they do.  Income  probably correlates with ability and time in practice. It's hard work, can be very dangerous, expensive to set up the office and barn calls, and you have to work a lot of after hours and weekends.  Good luck.  You have a lot of time to think about it.
