  1. Equity market is controlled by various sentiments. Usually there is a pattern. When buyers control the sentiment is in favour of buying. Sellers are in control and sentiment is favour of selling. FII sentiments etc.


  2. Much will depend on the time horizon you are looking at. In the short term, consensus is felt that the markets are not through the worst and that in the UK we might see the FTSE 100 fall below 5000. So many managers and investors have higher levels of cash holdings than they would normally. The most popular areas have been commodities and emerging markets – however, these by nature more risky and I would urge caution.  

    Over the medium term to longer term, there is general consensus that far east and emerging markets will continue to grow at a higher rate than US or UK economies and that investors should be looking to increase their exposure to these areas especially to China and India.
