Erakovic/Watson dump Dekmeijere/Falconi to lift the doubles title – Texas Tennis Open 2012
Kiwi-British duo of Marina Erakovic and Heather Watson edged past Latvian-American tandem, Liga Dekmeijere and Irina Falconi, in the final of Texas Tennis Open on Friday in straight set of, 6-3, 6-0. It took Erakovic and
Watson nearly 52 minutes to outclass their rivals and claim the doubles crown.
Dekmeijere and Falconi commenced the match with their initial serve but were unable to hold. Taking advantage of their opponent’s weak game plan, Erakovic and Watson capitalized on the opportunity and took a flying start
of 3-0. The Latvia-American pair slowly improved their pace but kept giving their opponents too many opportunities to seize the lead. The fourth seeds kept cruising in the contest, grabbing the remaining of the games in the set to claim a 6-3 score line.
The unseeded Dekmeijere and Falconi showed a considerable declining trend in the initial set. They committed double faults four times and were unable to hit any ace. The first serve percentage was 72, which was considerably
good, helping them to convert 11 of 21 first serve points. The couple secured two of five break points.
Correspondingly, the winning team could not strike any ace and double fault three times in the set. They had a fairly average first serve percentage of 61, winning 10 of 14 points on it. On the other hand, they managed to
capture two of three break points in the set, which was one of the primary factors for their success.
In the second set, the Kiwi-British participants’ victory became more evident. They started to bag away all the possible chances and by the end of the set, they marked their outstanding win of 6-0. The opponent team was not
capable to hold its single serve in the match. Dekmeijere and Falconi got completely ineffective and could not strike back a single hit against their rivals.
The Latvia-American team double faulted at critical moments in the match and were incapable of striking any ace. They had an average first serve percentage of 56, clinching merely two of nine first serve points. Fortunately,
the secured two of five break points. Erakovic and Watson neither fired a single ace nor committed any double faults. However, they had a good first serve percentage of 71, converting eight of 10 points, which lead to their ultimate victory over their adversaries.
