Erase memory...?

Is it possible for someone to erase a persons memory....to keep them from remembering something important?

  2. Yes and no.

    As time goes by people will eventually forget things, and even important things start to lose details. Really traumatic events are harder to forget though.

    Sigmund Freud believed that most children with some sort of mental disease actually had a traumatic event stored in their memory that some part of their brain blocked off. Most of his therapy sessions involved trying to find out what that event was.

    Some hypnotists believe they can help a person remember something that they had blocked off.

    Now, as far as one person making another forget something? Not likely. Some psychologist believe that you can change a persons memory, or make them remember things that didn't happen. This is especially better with children. But for the most part it really requires the other person's consent. They have to want to forget something, and they have to REALLY want to remember something else.

    Some killers convince themselves they never killed anyone, they make up some other memories, even though there are tapes and the like.
