Erazem Lorbek leads as FC Barcelona Regal rout Unics 93-65: Euroleague Recap
Spanish giants, FC Barcelona Regal remained unbeaten in Group D by romping to a 93-65 win over the reigning Eurocup champions Unics on November 03, 2011 in Kazan, Russia.
"It was a tough match for both teams. We did not expect to win by such a big difference. We expected a difficult game and prepared really well for it,” Barcelona Regal centre Erazem Lorbek said post game.
With this victory, the FCB Regal are now in a tie with Montepaschi Siena atop Group D standings, with 3-0 record apiece. The Unics, on the other hand have dropped to 1-2 with their second consecutive loss. FC Barcelona played an effective floor game with 19 assists and committed just seven turnovers.
Erazem Lorbek stole the show with a game high 24-point on a 9 for 11 shooting from the two-point range and 2 for 2 from three-point range. Lorbek also grabbed five rebounds in the victory while Juan Carlos Navarro chipped in 19 points and pulled down four rebounds for Regal.
Pete Mickeal came off the bench with 16 points and six boards while Marcelinho Huertas contributed 10 points and dished out game-best eight assists for the visiting team.
Terrell Lyday led Unics with 14 points on 5 for 9 shooting from two-point range while Vladimir Veremeenko registered 11 points, hitting 5 for 7 from free throw line. Kelly McCarty ended with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals for Unics.
In the first quarter, Lorbek buried two straight shots from downtown in Barcelona’s 10-0 spurt as they held a ten-point lead, 19-9, with two minutes remaining. Veremeenko responded with a pair of free throws and Henry Domercant followed him with a three-pointer that put them within five, 19-14. Mickeal Pete however drove to the rim and Huertas hit a floating shot to push Barcelona ahead by nine points, 23-14, after 10 minutes.
FC Barcelona maintained their hold early in the second quarter and were leading by 26-16. However, Unics brought the home crowd back to life with an 8-0 run and trimmed their deficit to just two at 26-24. Barcelona however shored up their defence after that and carved out a 44-32 lead at halftime.
Regal maintained their double-digit lead early in the third quarter and went on a 7-0 run late in the quarter to widen their lead to 24 points, 65-41. Unics had trouble getting into any kind of rhythm as Barcelona carried a 69-48 lead into the last quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Barcelona outscored the hosts 24-17 to seal the game.
