The French international has taken out time to express his desire to return to regular football as he went on to reveal that he will fight in order to play again.
Barcelona’s Eric Abidal is raring for a chance to take the field once again as the footballer feels that he has a lot of fight left in him. The defender asserted that he is thankful for a great career, however, he voiced that he would love to play again.
Abidal also stated that the doctors had told him that the fact that he is alive is nothing short of a miracle. He also maintained that even if he cannot go on to play football, it would be alright because then he will dedicate his time to his family.
The Frenchman had to undergo a liver transplant towards the end of last season. The footballer was diagnosed with similar problems in during Barca’s 2011 campaign when he had a tumour from his liver removed. He had to endure two major surgeries in two consecutive
years.
The first time the former Olymcpique Lyonnaise player went under the knife, he had to spend an extended period of time on the sidelines. However, this did not harm the undying spirit of the athlete as he managed to make a return to action.
Abidal went on to feature for La Blaugrana on numerous occasions, however, this was short-lived as it was disclosed by the club’s physician that he will have to get his liver operated. As a result, the player underwent a liver surgery.
"The doctors tell me that it is not normal that I have lived. I will fight to play football again but if I cannot then it's not a problem, I will continue with my family," the 32-year-old was quoted as saying.
"I want to give thanks to everyone for this award. The year that has passed has been the most difficult of my life and I have fought so much."
