Eric Abidal reveals interest from Manchester City – English Premier League
Eric Abidal, Barcelona’s veteran left back has made Manchester City’s interest in him public in his latest interview to the press. Abidal who suffered from cancer last season was out for a large part of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s league and European
Cup campaign but recovered in time to take part in their UEFA Champions League final victory over Manchester United.
Abidal also played in the second leg of Barcelona’s semi-final win over Real Madrid last season and has gained quite a reputation at Nou Camp. However it seems that the French full back might be on his way out of the club after
his contract ends at the end of this year as he is yet to sign a new deal with Barcelona.
Abidal revealed in his latest interview, "There are clubs that have shown an interest, notably PSG, Milan and Manchester City. But there have been no concrete offers and I can't say any more. I have a lot of respect for Barca but
if we can't reach an agreement, the door is always open." Abidal won the 2009 UEFA Champions League title with Barcelona and last season he added another European Cup winners’ medal to his collection as well.
The Catalan giants have treated the French full back well but the duration of his next contract seems to be a bone of contention as he is on the wrong side of 30 now. Abidal stated, "I believe I have the legs to go on for two more
years. I have an international objective. We have qualified for Euro 2012, which is good, but I am also looking at the 2014 World Cup."
Barcelona will hope to pin down Abidal with a new contract as soon as possible. Even though the Spanish giants look invincible right now, Abidal brings stability and depth to their squad due to his ability to play at centre back
as well as left back. Moreover with the European Championships coming up, the French full back will want to retain his form to secure a place in the French national team.
