Soriano hoped to establish himself in Barcelona’s first team roster after a sensational goal return for the reserve team in 2010/11 season. He has shown an immaculate sense of goal in Segunda Division, scoring a total of 57 goals in 81
competitive appearances.
However, he has seen himself marginalised in Catalonia this season. The 26-year-old has made a paltry 7 outings as he nears the end of his contract.
Benfica made a bid for the 26-year-old striker in the corresponding summer transfer window but failed to land their target. With six months remaining on his contract, Soriano leaving on a free transfer might become a reality.
With Barcelona and Soriano’s representatives at loggerheads following the contractual situation of the former Spanish U21 star, and Benfica continuing their interest from the corresponding summer transfer window, a move in January is on
the cards.
"I confirm there are advanced talks, but I cannot officially say yet that I will be a player of Benfica," he told Maisfutebol.
"We have to wait. There is nothing signed yet and I am still under a contract with Barca.”
Soriano accepted that they are in talks with the Portuguese club but refused to give the exact details of the contract. He explained that without any written agreements, he is still an official http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player and will honour his contract.
