Eric Boullier: Both Raikkonen and Grosjean are capable of winning – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that their pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean, is capable enough of winning 2012 Formula 1 world championship.
The British team has emerged as one of the most competitive contenders in this season and is presently standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 86 points.
Meanwhile, Raikkonen is currently at sixth position in the drivers’ champion with 51 points. Moreover, he is 6 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and 8 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
The Finnish driver has performed quite convincingly in the season so far as he secured two podium finishes in fourth and fifth race.
On the other hand, his teammate, Grosjean has also delivered reasonable performances in the season until now as he is at eighth position in the drivers’ rankings with 35 points. Furthermore, he is 6 points ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and 10 points
behind Button.
However, both the drivers struggled during the last race in Monte Carlo. Nevertheless, Boullier said that they have got the potential to win the championship title.
“This season has been interesting as no-one has been able to dominate, in either drivers' or constructors' championships. We have same number of points as Ferrari in third position in constructors' championship, while Kimi is 25 points away from Fernando
Alonso who's leading the drivers' classification. Anything can still happen and the championship is wide open,” he said.
He added, “Let's hope so. Both Kimi and Romain are capable of winning and E20 has shown race winning pace. We're looking forward to Montreal. “Our 500th race may not have been one of our best, but I hope the 501st is!”
Besides, Lotus technical director, James Allison said that they have planned to come up with some updates in 2012 Canadian GP and they are positively looking forward to perform well in Montreal.
It will be important to mention that during the start of the season, Boullier said that they should not be considered as the second class team anymore as they have the perfect blend of expert staff plus talented and experienced drivers to stand amongst the
top teams.
