Eric Boullier: Renault strong financially, next step to hire effective management – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 team Renault boss Eric Boullier has said that his team’s financial footing is strong through a partnership with Group Lotus and Genii and the next step will be to make the management more effective.
Boullier added that Renault have no problems in investing more money in the team and will do that to ensure progress on the track.
He said that after starting the 2011 Formula 1 season on a high note, Renault’s performance has slipped a bit which is why the team needs to change some management roles to bring the best out of their car.
He said, “Now is the perfect time to ensure we have effective management at the track. We're calm. It has been a transitional period that we have handled remarkably well. We have a sponsor in the form of Group Lotus and solid partners. And if in the season
we ever need an extension of the budget, Genii Capital is able to grant it.”
He further added that Renault concentrated on the reliability of the team and partly ignored the development race. However, as the financial grounds are now secure, Renault will look to build some momentum to penetrate through the top four teams.
Group Lotus’ CEO Dany Bahar has also said that they will keep sponsoring the team despite their off the track issues with Team Lotus.
Renault’s kick off to the 2011 season was rather unexpected when their drivers, Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld, bagged back-to-back podium positions in the opening two races of the 2011 season.
After that, Renault’s performance slightly went down courtesy few crashes and reliability issues in the car. In the last race in Monaco, Petrov crashed again in the final moments of the race and slightly injured himself.
Nevertheless, Boullier thinks that Renault should take the next step in development and should win some races for which staff reshuffling might be required.
