Eric Boullier: Renault ties with Cosworth rumours are from paddock and annoying – Formula 1
Renault team Principal Eric Boullier has stated that the fresh rumours about Renault and Cosworth ties for the 2012 Formula 1 season have been fired up from the paddock and are really annoying.
Boullier stated Lotus Renault GP have a deal with Renault until the 2013 season and are already looking for an extension in the contract.
He added that the rumours of the Renault team being financially weak in the 2011 season have been fired up by some rival groups and no such case exists in the team. The Brit added that the recent deals with some of the car manufacturers have ensured that
Renault will progress further in Formula 1.
Soon after the Silverstone Grand Prix, there were rumours that the Renault team will shift to Cosworth-powered engines for the 2012 season.
Boullier said, “Those are new rumours from the paddock that I can kill now if you want - our contract with Renault is ending at the end of 2013, we have already started the discussions about extending it, and now we have to negotiate. So it is very complex,
but I am trying to make everybody happy.”
Renault pulled out from the Formula 1 arena as a team in the 2011 season and sold their name to Genii Capital and Group Lotus. It was believed that the company is financially depleting and sooner or later the team will shift to a cheaper Cosworth engine.
Boullier denied the rumours and stated that their partnerships with some companies will ensure that the engine remains the same and the development process rolls on.
“We are part of this group of four teams, and we would like to put back in the right place the technology where it should be. We have some sponsorship with Renault and Total, which is a French involvement,” commented Boullier.
Nevertheless, the season continues in Germany with the tenth Grand Prix of the season which will take place next weekend on July 24, 2011.
Renault are currently fifth on the points table with 65 points.
