Eric Boullier: Renault to fight for 4th position and will take on Ferrari and McLaren – Formula 1
Renault team boss Eric Boullier has said that he is happy with their current performance of the 2011 Formula 1 season and will look to consolidate on that.
Boullier added that he would love to give a fight to the top three teams of the 2011 Formula 1 season but it will be difficult altogether.
Eric stated, “If it were the last race of the championship and I knew that the fifth team could not catch me, then yes, but Formula One is not that easy. I am happy to be fourth - and we definitely will fight to keep this position, or improve.”
Boullier added Formula 1 can change at any time and Renault will take the fight to the top running teams really soon.
However, Eric said that as Renault will be looking to move up the table to challenge the likes of Ferrari and McLaren, some lower rank teams might take some chances and grab a healthy lead from Renault.
Eric commented, “It is too early in the season to say. The war for development is huge. At every race teams bring new upgrades and you never know if the one that you bring is good enough to keep you ahead of the others.”
So far, Renault’s duo of Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov has managed to bag a total of 21 points in the opening four races of the 2011 season. Renault was lucky in a way that some of the bigger teams took the new season easy and did not develop as much as
was required.
Still Boullier commented that he is confident that the two podiums in the opening two races of the season was not a fluke and Renault will consolidate on the performance.
Eric stated that Nick has impressed a fair bit but Petrov’s performance is from the top drawer.
Renault have improved their performance in the last two seasons to place themselves among the top five teams.
The next encounter in the 2011 season is going to take place in Barcelona on May 22, 2011 and hopefully Renault will take something positive from it.
