Eric Boullier: Renault to fight for top six in Spanish GP with upgraded R31 – Formula 1
Renault team boss, Eric Boullier is optimistic about Spanish Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He said that Renault’s duo, Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov, will try to land in the top six positions with the upgraded R31.
Boullier stated that both drivers will have the same car and will try to improve their game in the Spanish GP to grab some points for the team.
“They have the same car so if they compete together throughout the race that means we have a good pair of drivers,” said Boullier.
In the Turkish Grand Prix, Heidfeld and Petrov were side by side when the Russian pushed the German outside of the turn and almost forced him into the pit stops. Heidfeld was very upset about the incident but soon overcame the Russian and finished in seventh
place.
Talking about the incident, Boullier said, “This has to be done fairly, and it is always tricky when they have to battle against each other because they're racing drivers and they don't want to give their position away. We have now cleared the situation
up but it is good to see them battling.”
Renault, like every other team, tested on the Barcelona track and has a good familiarisation of it. However, Boullier thinks that Spanish Grand Prix will be a completely different track as the temperatures will be elevated.
Furthermore, Boullier stated that some upgrades will be seen in the Renault car but the main difference will be seen by the use of the Drag Reduction System and Kinetic Energy Recovery System.
Overtaking has not been one of the additives of the Spanish race but this year’s innovations will hopefully bring some interest on the track.
Renault have managed 42 points in the first four races of the 2011 Formula 1 season and will look to consolidate their efforts in the next race of the season which will be held on May 22, 2011 in Barcelona.
