Eric Boullier: Renault will look to reclaim fourth spot on points table in German GP – Formula 1
Renault team boss Eric Boullier has stated that his team’s first goal in the upcoming German Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season will be to reclaim the fourth spot on the constructors’ table from Mercedes team.
Boullier added that the home race in Silverstone was not as expected and the team was very upset from the results. He commented that although Nick Heidfeld was able to finish among points starting from the 16th place yet the team was not happy
enough as they lost a spot on the points table.
He stated, “It was and there was a general feeling of disappointment within the team. That said, it was good for Nick to recover from 16th on the grid to 8th position when he crossed the line - it was a positive and determined drive from him.”
Boullier added that the team will be bringing some updates, which were available for Silverstone but were not used which will probably improve the pace of the car which has not been up to the mark.
He also stated that the team must take some steps forward in Germany and in Hungry before going for the August break because the team’s challenge for 2011 is to finish fourth in the constructors’ championship.
“We did lose our fourth position in the Constructors' Championship to Mercedes GP. We will be looking to claim that back at the Nürburgring. We definitely need to catch up with Mercedes GP, who has overtaken us into fourth spot in the Constructors' Championship
which is the target this year,” commented Boullier.
Renault started their 2011 campaign on a high as they bagged two back-to-back podium positions in Australia and Malaysia. From there on, they struggled to hold on to their position in the points table and finally Mercedes overtook them in Silverstone.
However, as the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has declared the blown diffuser legal for the remaining ten races of the 2011 season, Renault will have an opportunity to finish fourth ahead of Mercedes.
