Eric Boullier: Robert Kubica will replace Nick Heidfeld in Renault when he is fit – Formula 1 news
Renault team Principal Eric Boullier has said that the injured Robert Kubica will have his seat ready when he fully recovers from his injuries.
Boullier added that he and Nick Heidfeld have an agreement that when the Pole is fit to race, he will get his seat back from Heidfeld either in the 2011 Formula 1 season or in the 2012 season.
Boullier also commented on the Pole’s current condition and stated that after his last surgery, Kubica is recovering well. Boullier also stated that he is in constant contact with his manager Daniele Morelli and his doctor, Dr. Ceccarelli.
“After the last surgery he had to relax for some time but now he is pushing really hard. I haven't seen him lately but I've spoken to him a bit. I am also in constant contact with his manager Daniele Morelli and Dr Ceccarelli, who says that the situation
is better than expected,” stated Boullier.
Further talking about Kubica’s seat in Renault, Boullier stated, “The situation is very clear. We have an agreement with Robert and Nick is well aware that if Robert is recovered and able to come back, he will come back. End of story. There is no other possibility.”
Kubica suffered an almost fatal crash in February 2011 while participating in a local rally event in Italy. The Renault team then hired Heidfeld to drive alongside the young Russian Vitaly Petrov. Initially, Boullier stated that the Pole will only take three
to four months to recover and will be back in the car.
However, as the injuries of the Pole were taking more than the expected time to heal, it was believed that Heidfeld will remain in the team for at least the 2011 season. But now as Boullier has stated that Kubica will have his seat back anytime, it will
be interesting to see what happens when he returns.
Although Heidfeld is performing well than Petrov, still the German will be the one to lose his seat in the team.
The 2011 Formula 1 season continues in Germany on July 24.
