Eric Boullier: Robert Kubica’s condition improving quicker than expected – Formula 1 news
Team principal of Lotus Renault GP Eric Boullier has stated that Robert Kubica is recovering quicker than it was expected after he went through a terrifying career threatening accident during a rally event in February 2011.
However, he is still going to stay at the Italian hospital Santa Corona where he recently had his fourth round of surgeries this past weekend. He was looking pretty good this year as he scored some of the best times of the first pre-season test session that
took place in Abu Dhabi
“The updates are very positive. He is ahead of schedule on all the forecasts, whether to do with rehabilitation or recovery. He is proving an example to the hospital. The doctors are supporting him,” said Eric.
Boullier added that Robert is extremely motivated at the moment and he is hoping to come back as soon as he recovers from his injuries. Kubica’s willpower is quite strong as he is taking this whole phase very patiently according to the doctors and other
than that, he is showing some exceptional progress as well.
However, Kubica has been replaced by Nick Heidfeld, who drove for Team Sauber for the last couple of races of the 2010 Formula 1 season as a replacement for Pedro de la Rosa. Heidfeld is quite confident about his 2010 run and the team is hoping that Nick
will perform up to the team’s expectations in 2011.
“Nick has a very good approach. He gets deeply involved and has already convinced the technical team of his value. He has quickly built around himself a climate of confidence,” said Boullier.
Nevertheless, the team has produced a pretty good car for its 2011 run and they believe that they have the ability to challenge the top running teams for podium positions this year.
The team has performed exceptionally well at the pre-season test sessions this year in terms of reliability and pace but one cannot judge the team’s performance entirely on the results of the pre-season test sessions.
We will have to wait until the season opening race in Australia that is expected to take place on March 27, 2011 for their real pace.
