Eric Boullier: Romain Grosjean has the talent to be world champion – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier says that their driver Romain Grosjean has got the talent to be Formula 1 world champion.
In 2009, Grosjean secured a race seat with Renault and was completely outperformed by his teammate, Fernando Alonso.
In the following year, he was dropped by his team and moved to race in GT1 Series.
Nevertheless, in 2011, he was able to make his return to F1 with Lotus after he took victory in GT2 championship.
He could not score any points in the first two races of the season held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia as he was retired.
Nonetheless, it will important to mention that he showed impressive performance in the qualifying of the season opener in which he secured third place in the grid. However, he could not convert his competitive grid position into a podium finish.
In the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China he came 6th after qualifying for 10th position in the grid which can be deemed as quite a reasonable performance.
Besides, he secured an incredible third podium finish behind his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing, in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit after he started the race from 7th place in the grid.
After seeing his performance at Sakhir, Boullier expressed that Grosjean has a great potential to win the championship title in future.
“You know what impressed me most, more than just the podium finish, was his speed and his racing,” Boullier was quoted by AFP. “More than the podium finish, what was impressive is the fact that he finished so close to Kimi and just 10 seconds behind Sebastian
Vettel. I was not expecting to have both drivers to finish so close together and that is good for us and for him. It means that he is now capable and ready to compete at the highest level. He has the speed and the talent to be world champion one day.”
The French driver is standing at 8th position in the drivers’ championship so far with 35 points and aims to perform at his best in the races ahead.
