Eric Boullier: Valencia was a disappointment, but Renault will do better at home track – Formula 1
Renault team Principal Eric Boullier has stated that the Britain-based team will try to perform better in front of its home crowd at the 2011 Formula 1 Silverstone Grand Prix.
Eric stated that coming from the last three street circuit races, Renault can expect some good results from the Silverstone track with its fast turns and corners.
Boullier added that Renault had a good start to the 2011 season with back-to-back podium positions in Australia and then in Malaysia but from there on, their performance took a dip. The British man further added that their car was full of potential in the
opening races of the season and it might be good again for the remaining 11 races of the campaign.
“It's important as an English company, and as an English F1 team, to do well at your home race because there's more local attention. Obviously we are looking forward to seeing the new complex, which should make this event an even greater success,” commented
Boullier.
Apart from Renault, there are several other British teams and drivers who will be competing for the Silverstone Grand Prix glory, Boullier commented.
Further talking about the start of the season when firstly Vitaly Petrov and then Nick Heidfeld bagged podium positions to kick off Renault’s 2011 season in a fantastic fashion, Boullier stated, “We had a very strong start to the season with a couple of
podiums, but obviously we have now had a few races where we haven't performed as well as we need to.”
Boullier further added that the rule changes will have some interesting effect on different cars and the Friday Free Practice sessions will clear the minds of the teams and drivers.
Renault are currently fourth on the constructors’ table, just edging the Mercedes team behind. Renault were fifth in the 2010 season, so clearly they have made some improvements.
The 2011 season continues in Silverstone on July 10 and it will be interesting to see how Renault perform firstly to defend their position from the Mercedes team and secondly to impress the British crowd.
