Eric Boullier believes Jerome d’Ambrosio deserves race seat – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that their test driver, Jerome d’Ambrosio deserves to be a full-time Formula 1 driver.
D’Ambrosio replaced Romain Grosjean of the Enstone based team in the Italian Grand Prix as the Frenchman faced one-race suspension penalty because of the accident which he caused in the Belgian GP due to which including him three other drivers namely, Lewis
Hamilton of McLaren, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sergio Perez of Sauber were also retired.
Even though he faced a little difficulty in the qualifying of the preceding race held at Autodromo di Monza and could only secure 15th grid position. However, he performed quite convincingly in the race and secured 13th position even
after struggling with a technical problem in his car.
Boullier said that the Belgian driver has got some tremendous racing skills and he certainly deserves a race seat in the sport.
"I think if any team had a doubt about him they will understand now that he is fast and can be very serious and professional and deserves his place in Formula 1," Boullier told Autosport.
In addition, he said that they are very impressed by the performance of their reserve driver in the last race and asserted that he has shown remarkable pace despite the pressure and tough competition.
"He has been good. Any team principal should look at his pace. In the second half of the race he was clearly matching the pace of all the cars in front of him. He didn't put a foot wrong and he was professional and it was a very impressive weekend," he added.
Besides, he said that they are confidently looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming races so as to secure a reasonable place in the constructors’ championship this year.
At present, the Grove based team is standing at 8th place in the constructors’ rankings. Additionally, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and are behind their major rival, Force India.
The British team has been considered as one of the strongest midfield contender and it will be exciting to see how they show up in the night race at Marina Bay Street Circuit this weekend.
