Eric Boullier believes Kimi Raikkonen can surely win championship title – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has praised the performance of their driver, Kimi Raikkonen in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far and has said that he can surely win this year’s championship title.
Boullier said that Raikkonen is one of the most competent contenders in the championship fight and has proved his potential with his incredible pace in the season until now.
Moreover, he said that the Finn has performed incredibly well and has managed to get the most out of his car, just in the first year of his return in F1.
“Kimi is a special animal,” Boullier said. “His racecraft is always fantastic; he manages to extract 100% from the car on Sunday and to make the most of every opportunity. Who would remember, today, that he's been out of this sport for the last two years?
At present, the Finnish driver is currently standing at third place in the drivers’ championship with 149 points. Besides, he is ahead of his main rival, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and is behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Even though, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari has a strong lead over Raikkonen, nevertheless, he is targeting to close the gap to the driver in the front and is positively looking forward to perform well in the remainder of the season.
Additionally, Boullier has said that they are trying their best to resolve the technical issues which they have faced in the previous few grands prix and are hoping to score points with consistency in the forthcoming races.
In addition, he said that they are expecting to enhance their pace in the Japanese GP which is to be held at Suzuka this weekend and are aiming to score some competitive points so as to make their mark stronger in the championship battle.
“Now, the priority is to score points regularly with two cars because the Constructors' Championship is really important to us. Romain has shown in Singapore that his raw speed is still there. He did not make any mistakes and will be able to build on this
experience in Suzuka,” he added.
