Eric Boullier claims Lotus have contingency plan if Kimi Raikkonen leaves – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they have a contingency plan to follow if their driver, Kimi Raikkonen leaves their team at the end of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing has recently made an announcement that he will retire from F1 at the conclusion of this year and the Milton Keynes based team is now searching for a potential driver to accompany Sebastian Vettel in the next season.
Raikkonen is undoubtedly Red Bull’s top most choice to fill the vacancy because of his incredible talent and driving skills. Moreover, the defending champions have already made some really good offers to the Finnish driver.
Boullier has said that they are trying their best to keep the Finn in their team for which they have put a very nice proposal before him. However, he asserted that if Raikkonen leaves, they do have a plan B. In addition, he said that they are the most desirable
team in the sport and there are a lot of big drivers who are willing to join them. He also stated that many drivers are talking to them at the moment, but he cannot provide any details as of now.
“I always have a plan B, and we are in a favourable position in that after some big names we are the most desired team. A lot of drivers are talking to us, so should the white sheet situation occur [and we need new drivers] I have a plan B but I will not
share that now!” he told the official F1 site.
Furthermore, he said that although they are presently at fourth place in the constructors’ championship, but their aim is to secure third position which is quite manageable.
“We could live with that [fourth place in Constructors’], but that is not the plan. We are pretty confident that we will be able to fight back. P3 in the constructors’ should be manageable,” he stated.
It will be thrilling to see how they perform in the season ahead and whether they will be able to achieve their target or not.
