Eric Boullier claims Lotus never doubted Kimi Raikkonen’s potential – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they have never doubted the potential of their driver, Kimi Raikkonen and expressed that they are really happy over his victory in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Raikkonen left Formula 1, back in 2009 after the pre-mature termination of his contract with Ferrari and took part in the World Rally Championship during the last two years, where he could not attain competitive results. He made his comeback to the sport
in this season with the Enstone based team and has performed incredibly well until now.
Furthermore, he has been considered as one of the most competent contenders in this year’s championship fight and has made his mark even stronger after scoring his first win in the Abu Dhabi GP held at Yas Marina Circuit.
The Finnish driver surprised everyone with his terrific victory in the preceding race. However, Boullier has said that they are not amazed as they have always been well aware of Raikkonen’s tremendous talent and driving skills.
In addition, he said that the Finn has proved that he is still capable of achieving great results and has made his fans and team members proud with his remarkable performances in the season so far.
“This was maybe a surprise for anyone on the outside of the team that doubted him, but for everyone on the inside it was not,” said Boullier. “Kimi has certainly made his mark and shown that he's back in Formula 1 and back at his best form. Having him back
getting podiums and a win is great for him, great for the team and great for the fans.”
Besides, he said that they are really pleased with the overall performance of the team in the season until now and are positively looking forward to perform even better in the remaining two grands prix of the current season.
“It was a pleasant surprise to see that a few of them were coming from our rival teams saying how happy they were for us,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how the 2007 world champion shows up in the United States GP this weekend.
