Eric Boullier claims three teams interested in signing Romain Grosjean – Formula 1 news
According to the team principal of Lotus Renault GP Eric Boullier, three Formula 1 teams are interested in signing their test driver Romain Grosjean.
Grosjean is currently taking part in the GP2 series championship as well and quite surprisingly is leading it. His 2011 performance in GP2 has been quite inspirational and impressive as a result of which three teams have him in their possible 2012 drivers’
line-up.
The team is expected to replace Nick Heidfeld with Romain Grosjean for some of the remaining races of the 2011 Formula 1 season and in the long run, it seems that the team now has a lot of choice for its 2012 drivers’ line-up.
Robert Kubica is expected to return to the sport in 2012 for sure while Vitaly Petrov is currently on a contract which is valid until the end of the next 2012 Formula 1 season. Other than that, the team revealed that Petrov is doing a good job and that they
are relying on him more than Heidfeld.
Renault’s team owner Gerard Lopez also admitted recently that Grosjean is also an option for the team as their 2012 race driver.
“Vitaly (Petrov) has a contract to the end of 2012. We could consider Vitaly with Romain, but that doesn't depend on us. It depends on the health of Robert (Kubica),” he said.
Boullier on the other hand stated that the French driver struggled to give his best in 2009 mainly because of the ‘crash gate’ scandal.
“As I am very close to him, I can confirm that he is different now, much more mature than two years ago. We're waiting to see what happens with Robert,” said Boullier.
The 2012 Formula 1 season is going to be very interesting for Renault as they have very good drivers with them for sure but in order to enable them to perform at their best, they would have to come up with a good car as well.
Kubica is expected to return next year and we can expect him to team up alongside either Petrov or maybe Grosjean or the team might introduce a completely different line-up. Let’s see what Renault plan to do.
