Eric Boullier feels confident for the season ahead after Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that there is more to come from them in the season ahead after their drivers secured second and third podium finish at 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix held at Sakhir circuit on April 22.
Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus finished second after staring from the 11th grid position in the fourth race after following the defending championship, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who took his first victory in this season.
Moreover, the teammate of Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean, after starting from 7thplace in the grid, secured an impressive third place finish in the Bahrain GP.
Even though, Lotus struggled in the qualifying, however, Boullier said that the team’s performance in the last race has proved that they have the potential to fight for the championship title. He also said that there is a lot more to come for them in the
approaching races.
“While qualifying was not perfect, everything in the race was very good; the car itself obviously, the pit stops, which the crew had put hours of work into making more competitive, our strategy, which may have looked like a risk on the surface but which
played out just as we'd hoped, and of course the drivers who drove flawlessly. It was a fantastic all-round performance, and there's more to come, I'm sure,” said Boullier.
Besides, he said that they have not been able to perform well in the first three races of the season and could not make their way in the top five positions. Nonetheless, he said that they have come up well enough in the race at Sakhir to prove their competency.
“Everything ran very smoothly with no major glitches, and with a bit of a strategy gamble that eventually paid off,” he said.
Lotus have been considered as one of the most competitive teams in this year’s championship as they have the abilities to fight for the title.
In addition, Boullier said that they should no longer be seen as the second class team as they have everything in them which it takes to be the world champion.
