Eric Boullier feels good to have Kimi Raikkonen in Lotus – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that he feels good to have Kimi Raikkonen in his team who has performed convincingly well in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far.
Raikkonen is presently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 98 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and behind Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
The Finnish driver has returned to the sports after participating in World Rally Championship in the last couple of years. He has delivered some amazing performances in the current season until now and has secured four podiums plus two fifth place finishes.
Boullier said that he doesn’t see any drawback to have the 2007 world champion in his team and admired his performance in first half of the season. In addition, he said that they are expecting Raikkonen to score a grand prix victory soon in the upcoming
season.
“I don't see much of a downside to Kimi to be honest,” he said. “He came back to his speed level very quickly and I would not be surprised if he wins very soon.”
He added, “We saw a great recovery from Kimi after a difficult qualifying session. He put in a very strong and experienced drive coupled with a good strategy from the team. Starting in tenth and nineteenth positions we were always going to have our work
cut out, so it was good to see Kimi score big points again and display strong race pace”.
Besides, he said that they have got the potential to attain better results in the forthcoming races and for that they are trying their best to make the necessary enhancements to improve the performance of their car.
Additionally, he said that they need to have a special focus on improving their qualifying pace because according to him they can easily claim victory if they take a start from a competitive grid slot.
The Enstone based team is currently at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 159 points and it will be thrilling to see how they perform in the Hungarian GP.
