Eric Boullier keen to make up time at Barcelona – Formula 1 news
Lotus F1 team principal, Eric Boullier is dedicated to make up for the lost time during the final pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
During the first day of the last week’s test Lotus could only complete 7 laps and afterwards the team missed out the run in the remaining days when a problem in the front suspension of the new car E20 was discovered. However, Boullier stated that it would
be great to run again after the intense delay.
Moreover, he expressed that the time which the team has lost due to the issue of suspension will never come back. However, he said they hoped to make the best use of the remaining four days of the test so they can improve the performance of the team.
“Obviously [it's frustrating] when you have only 12 days of testing and it's very crucial for the team to test, but obviously we had enough concerns to take this decision which I think was the best one to do; to stop running and focus on fixing these issues.
And now being back on track we'll make sure we can get back and move forward,” said Boullier.
Boullier agreed that the mid-season test in Mugello will be helpful in softening the blow. However, he said that the team has to perform well in the first Grand Prix to get the most out of the new car.
“Definitely. I will not say the more testing you get the better it is but at least - especially in our position today, we didn't do four days - so to have another three days in Mugello is definitely good,” said Boullier.
James Allison, the technical director of the team said that the team had been able to resolve the issue of the suspension of the new car and would be ready for the final test at Barcelona.
Moreover, he stated that the changes in the chassis have increased the weight of the car but hopefully it will not have a significant impact on the performance of the car.
