Eric Boullier not worried about Romain Grosjean’s latest crash – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier, says that he is not worried about Romain Grosjean getting involved in another first lap incident at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Grosjean has been involved in many first lap incidents which have placed him under immense pressure this season. He was involved in a huge crash in Belgium where he took out himself along with Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez. He also got
banned from the Italian Grand Prix.
Grosjean had admitted to have been under a lot of stress ahead of the Korean GP where he finally was able to not cause any hype over the track. However, in the recent Abu Dhabi GP taking place on the Yas Marina circuit, he once again crashed with Mercedes’
Nico Rosberg after which he got his car punctured. Later in the race, he had to retire when he was involved in another crash with Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Sauber’s Perez.
Boullier insists that the recent event was not Grosjean’s fault but rather a very common racing incident.
“This fight with three cars ended in a crash, but we cannot blame him as it was a racing incident,” said Boullier. “There is no concern. Obviously he did not have the best qualifying here, but we know why. He had a good start but unfortunately he had a puncture.
I think we then tried to gamble in pushing the tyres to the end of the race, but he lost his tyres earlier than expected.”
Rosberg himself said that it will be unfair to blame the Lotus driver for what happened in the race. He insisted that he does not blame Grosjean and does not blame himself either. He also admits that the incident was just a part of the race. Rosberg was
also involved in an accident with HRT’s Narain Karthikeyan after which he had to retire from the race as well.
The team has not exactly confirmed Grosjean for the next season but Boullier had stated that they are ready to make him stay as he has impressed them the way he dealt with all the criticism coming his way and had shown progress in the Korean GP.
