Eric Boullier of Lotus says that the results at Hungaroring are satisfactory – Formula 1 news
Eric Boullier, the team principal of team Lotus believes that getting to the podium was a satisfactory performance at Hungaroring.
Lotus could have been the winner at Budapest but Boullier believes that the circuit and conditions were complex, therefore even making it to the podium is worth appreciating.
Boullier said that it is delightful for team Lotus that both of its drivers were able to make it to the podium because that had a bad weekend during the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim with Romain Grosjean. He added that these results are even better than
those at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
“The drivers had a good race and tried to catch the leader, but we knew this track would be very difficult to overtake,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that the drivers had good pace and they were trying to catch the leader at Budapest but it is very challenging to overtake someone on that circuit because that circuit is very twisting. He added that the qualifying round was also fruitful
because they had altered their preparation and it gave them their desired results.
Boullier said, “We are happy with qualifying, as we prepared differently for it, and it worked. So both cars were in the top five. If we can produce this for the rest of the season then we will be in the position to fight for the win.”
Moreover, he said that such consistent performances will give them the ability to fight for the leading place.
He added that getting to podium is achieving good results however, he said that if their drivers are not be able to win a race then it would be frustrating.
The French principal said, “Obviously if we were second and third every weekend I would be happy, but in some ways it would be frustrating to miss something and not win a race.”
Furthermore, he said that their ambition is to achieve better results every year but if they are able to achieve such results then obviously they will reconsider their target.
