Eric Boullier of team Lotus says Kimi Raikkonen is impressive even after break – Formula 1 news
Eric Boullier, principal of team lotus says that Kimi Raikkonen is still giving good performances even after the two-year break he had and his performance is not unexpected.
He said that after a break of two years the performance of driver gets under question because of break in training. Raikkonen stands at 5th place in the drivers’ championship and was able to make it to 2nd place in the Hungarian Grand Prix. He added that
it is nice to see Raikkonen giving impressive performances in the early half of the season.
Boullier was reluctant in setting any ambition related for the Finnish driver because he did not wanted to set goals for team Lotus, higher than it can achieve.
“This is the best situation, but you must not rest on your laurels. You need to definitely keep pushing and we have a strong development programme coming. After we have this break, which will obviously be quiet, we will push and have some nice developments
coming to the car to keep this strategy of qualifying well and putting us in a position to fight for the win,” he added.
Talking about the recent 2nd place achieved by the Finn and the success of Lotus, the team principal said that they should keep trying even if they have achieved success.
Furthermore, he said that after the silent summer break they will push much in order to achieve more success.
He added that team Lotus will keep introducing developments to their car so that they may prove themselves competitive. Team Lotus is expected to introduce their own double DRS after the summer break, because if they do not, they would not be able to use
it in the next 2013 season, as per the rules agreed upon by the teams.
Raikkonen left Formula 1 in 2010 to pursue his career in rallying. He could not achieve very impressive results there. After a break of two years from Formula 1, he signed his contract with Lotus.
He struggled earlier however, was able to make it 5 times to the podium. He holds 116 championship points.
