Eric Boullier positive about Lotus F1’s performance in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Lotus F1’s team principal, Eric Boullier, has stated that he is positive about the team’s performance in the 2013 F1 season.
“I would be very happy to start the season with the same car performance we had last year relative to everyone else,” Boullier said. “I know both our drivers will be race fit and, let's say, delivering more than 12 months ago. On the team front, last year
we lost a little bit of ground during the summer, but we know where and we know why it happened. We learned from our mistakes and we will not do the same strategy with next year's car development.”
Boullier added that while he is positive but he is not getting over confident. He said that they cannot know what the other teams are planning and they can only guess from their statistics but since the regulations are not changing with the car almost the
same for 2013 so they can use that to help keep continue their performance.
Lotus F1’s performance in the 2012 F1 season was noticeable. The team’s main driver, Kimi Raikkonen, had returned to F1 after two years and was successful at ending a very consistent season. Ahead of leaving the sport two years back, the Finnish driver was
being speculated for having lost interest in F1 after he was producing some dismal performances. However, Raikkonen not only won the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but also completed all the races but one. Raikkonen‘s driving was also very impressive as he was
rarely the cause of any on track incident. He finished third in the drivers’ championship.
On the other hand, Raikkonen’s teammate, Romain Grosjean, was the cause of many first lap crashes throughout the season which put him under pressure and also overshadowed his three podium finishes during the season. Grosjean was recently confirmed with the
team for 2013 shortly after his win at the individual event of the Race of Champions (ROC).
Boullier admitted that Grosjean was confirmed due to his positive attitude towards accepting his mistakes and that the team wants to continue with the same drivers in the new season as it provides stability.
