Eric Boullier says Jerome d’Ambrosio did an amazing job in 2012 Italian GP – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that their driver, Jerome d’Ambrosio delivered an amazing performance in the 2012 Italian Grand Prix after facing KERS failure.
D’Ambrosio replaced Romain Grosjean during the last weekend’s race as the Frenchman had to face one-race suspension penalty for causing an accident in the Belgian GP due to which including him, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, Sergio Perez of Sauber and Fernando
Alonso of Ferrari were also retired.
The Belgian driver performed quite convincingly in the race held at Autodromo di Monza in which he seemed strong but could only secure 13th place finish after taking a start from 15th grid slot as he suffered with KERS issue which hindered
his pace.
Nevertheless, Boullier admired his efforts and asserted that they are very much pleased to see his performance at Monza circuit. Moreover, he said that d’Ambrosio could have definitely scored some reasonable points if his KERS remained intact.
"Jérôme did an amazing job after being thrown in at the deep end," Boullier said. "Without his KERS issue I'm pretty sure he could have achieved a points finish."
Furthermore, Lotus trackside operations director, Alan Permane also praised the performance of their veteran driver in the preceding race and said that they were impressed by his pace on the medium Pirelli compound tyres.
"Jérôme had one arm tied behind his back with a KERS failure very early in the race and KERS is worth a significant amount of time here," Permane said. "He did a very credible job despite this, and his pace on the medium compound tyre in the second part
of the race was pretty good."
At present, the Enstone based team is standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 217 points. Besides, they are ahead of Mercedes and are behind their main rival, Ferrari.
Additionally, they have been deemed as one of the most competitive teams in this year’s title chase and have surely got the potential to challenge the top contenders.
Above and beyond, it will be immensely thrilling to see how they show up in the remaining seven grands prix.
