Eric Boullier says Lotus Renault GP are happy to race in Bahrain if security guaranteed – Formula 1
Renault’s team boss Eric Boullier has said that his team is willing to race in Bahrain in the 2011 Formula 1 season if security is guaranteed.
Boullier added that his team respects the decision of the World Motor Sport Council but still the Bahrain Grand Prix will be discussed in the meeting of the Formula One Teams Association in Canada.
Boullier was one of the team principals who voted in favour of the Bahrain Grand Prix being rescheduled in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Boullier said, “I have already spoken at length about our team's position recently: we are happy to go to Bahrain as long as our safety and the security of the people living there is guaranteed.”
He further added that, “That decision is likely to be discussed internally within FOTA, and a more detailed joint position may be defined after those discussions have taken place. Lotus Renault GP acknowledges the decision made by the FIA World Motor Sport
Council.”
Since the decision on the Bahrain Grand Prix was taken, the Formula 1 world has parted into two voices. Along with Boullier, Ferrari’s Stefano Domenicali and Force India’s Vijay Mallya also voiced in favour of the rescheduling of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
However, Red Bull’s Mark Webber said that going to Bahrain in such crucial conditions will not be a wise thing to do. Along with that, Human Rights organisations in Bahrain also said that the Formula 1 world should not visit the Kingdom and should boycott
the government’s acts in the country against innocent civilians.
However, against all odds, the WMSC decided to give Bahrain a slot in the 2011 Formula 1 calendar. The date given to the Bahrain Grand Prix is October 30 which will shift the inaugural Indian Grand Prix in the first week of December.
Nevertheless, the season continues in Canada with the seventh Grand Prix of the season but the debate of the Bahrain is expected to roll on further. Let’s see how it turns out.
