Eric Boullier says Lotus will fight for the championship in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they will definitely fight for the championship in the 2013 Formula 1 season after such a strong start.
Kimi Raikkonen of the Enstone based team delivered an inspiring performance in the Australian Grand Prix held at Albert Park in Melbourne and successfully claimed his first victory of the season after setting off from 7th grid slot.
Although, the Finnish driver could not secure a competitive grid position for the season opener, but he managed his tyres incredibly well during the race. He took only two pit stops and scored an impressive win.
Boullier has said that they have always asserted that they want to become a top team in F1 and after such a great start they have become more hopeful. In addition, he said that they are positively looking forward to fight for the title in this season.
Even though, he said that it is too early to make any kind of predictions. However, he expressed that they are very much confident for the season ahead after the first race and are aiming to win the championship.
“We clearly stated we want to be a top team and starting the season like this it means we will fight with everything for the championship, but it is too early to say anything,” Boullier said. “At least I can say Lotus F1 is a top team now and if every year
we are putting ourselves in a situation where we can compete for wins this is where we wanted to be. Then from that we can expect and build up from the nice momentum to maybe one day be champion again.”
It will be important to mention that Raikkonen’s teammate, Romain Grosjean could only secure 10th place finish in the Australian GP. Nonetheless, Boullier said that they are ready to support their struggling driver in any kind of circumstances.
“Two-stop was always the plan, even for [Romain] Grosjean,” he added.
Let’s see how the 2007 world champion and his teammate perform in the second race which is to be held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
